In 1967, the Canadian philosopher Marshall McLuhan published the The Medium is the Massage. In the book, he argued that the medium through which we get information (say, television or text or an advertisement) changes the meaning of that information. A font, the quality of a scan, the saturation color of a film, all can alter how a viewer understands a fact. The Medium, the first show the theater group SITI Company ever staged, in 1993, is based on both the 1967 book and McLuhan’s entire career. For the company’s final performance, it is reviving The Medium for just five days. An era will end with Will Bond starring as McLuhan. —Jensen Davis
