The Language of Beauty in African Art

May 5 – July 31, 2022
3333 Camp Bowie Blvd, Fort Worth, TX 76107, United States

Indigenous African art has too often been viewed through a Western lens. At the Kimball it is reframed. This exhibition draws together 300 works from collections around the world—pieces made in 19th- and 20th-century sub-Saharan Africa—and presents them from the perspective of those who created them. Providing the African words for beauty and the aesthetic imperatives of the country’s cultures, the show explores the meanings and functions of this art. —Elena Clavarino
