The Glass Menagerie, the 1944 play that lifted an obscure writer named Tennessee Williams into the pantheon of playwriting, is set for a London run. In this semi-autobiographical work, a grown man named Tom recalls his St. Louis childhood—namely, his father’s abandonment of the family and his sister’s crippling shyness. The American actress Amy Adams makes her West End debut as Tom’s mother, Amanda Wingfield, a woman who yearns for the past. Tom Glynn-Carney is cast as young Tom, and Paul Hilton plays the older, reflective Tom. Jeremy Herrin directs. —Jensen Davis
