The story of Robin Hood—the heroic English rascal who steals from the rich and gives to the poor—first appeared in a poem from the 14th century. Since then, the narrative has been passed down through generations by word of mouth. While often depicted as a plucky savior, a new adaptation presents Robin (Hugh Jackman) as a weathered outlaw who’s now a lonely criminal looking to salvage his life. Directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig), the adaptation de-romanticizes the classic tale. Jodie Comer and Bill Skarsgård costar. —Maggie Turner
