Terry Adkins: Resounding

Aug 13, 2020 – Feb 7, 2021
3716 Washington Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63108, United States

“My quest has been to find a way to make music as physical as sculpture might be,” said the artist Terry Adkins, “and sculpture as ethereal as music is.” Adkins, who died in 2014, had planned to be a musician, but he moved on to art, where his approach was eloquently interdisciplinary (music was often a subject). With musical instruments and found objects Adkins made art that addressed the African diaspora. In a retrospective that spans three decades of his career, 40 of Adkins’s most celebrated works are on display. —E.C.
