The artist Rolf Sachs is a polymath. He works on diverse projects, which include lighting and conceptual design, set design for opera, and ballet photography. He’s most fond of playing with domestic objects, finding new contexts for them. At his house in Switzerland, Sachs calls his living room “the object room,” and might make a coffee table out of a repurposed sleigh. In this exhibition, Sachs presents his latest series of photographs, “Moving Stills,” in which seemingly ordinary objects—a piece of string, a roll of toilet paper, a drum—are placed in odd settings: instant surrealism. “If you channel your creative soul, you can add spirit to situations, positively influence people’s attitudes,” Sachs explains, “or even add unexpected poetry and emotions to banal everyday objects.” —Elena Clavarino
