Takács Quartet I

Oct 15–16, 2019
2700 F St NW, Washington, DC 20566, USA

Béla Bartók’s intense study of authentic Hungarian peasant music “was of decisive meaning to me,” he wrote in 1921, “because it opened the door to the liberation from the former tyranny of the major and minor systems.” Bartók’s challenging string quartets came through that open door. The Takács Quartet, founded in Hungary, plays Quartets 1, 3, and 5 on the 15th, and 2, 4, 6 on the 16th. —L.J.
