Sylvia

Dec 14–15, 2019
Theatre Square, 1, Sankt-Peterburg, Russia, 190000

Frederick Ashton’s 1952 version of the ballet Sylvia—which premiered at the Paris Opera in 1876—sees John Keats meeting Léo Delibes in a Wedgwood world of mythological nymphs, hunts, torches, and the magic arrows of Eros. The sets and costumes are the original designs by the brothers Christopher and Robin Ironside—cocktail pastels, slightly smoky. This ballet is bliss! —L.J.
