“In 1992, Naomi Campbell iconically walked at Paris Fashion week,” announces the performer Joshua Asaré, “and today, I will do the same.” In the 2021 production of Sundown Kiki, at the Young Vic, Asaré proceeded to out-strut the queen of the runway. Blending theater, voguing, and ballroom into a story of rival houses, Sundown Kiki celebrated South London’s queer scene. Two years after a sold-out run, the show returns—reloaded! Jay Jay Revlon, a pioneer of London’s ballroom scene, and Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu, best known for directing For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets Too Heavy, helm the production. —Jensen Davis
