“The dynamic in my work is mainly based on pushing and shoving,” says the painter Daniel Richter, “or on elements that are being confronted by each other—mingling, pushing, pulling.” Max Hollein, director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, describes Richter’s dynamic method as “an attitude that serves the discovery of truth.” The paintings here take inspiration and energy from Greek mythology. —E.C.
