The end of organized slavery—the holding of human beings as personal property—brought segregation, then integration and systemic racism. Even now, the inequality in our societies continues to take its toll. Here is the first comprehensive exhibition to examine the Dutch role in the slave trade—specifically during the colonial period of the 17th to 19th centuries—through objects, paintings, and stories from that time. —E.C.
