The modern age is defined by speed, but most of all, by an atmosphere of impatience. For many of us, having spent months indoors in mandatory quarantine, the value of stillness, repose, has been an interesting rediscovery. This exhibition presents works of modern and contemporary art that address the states of calm and quiet. Included are key works by Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Piet Mondrian, Hans Arp, Alberto Giacometti, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Richard Serra, Gerhard Richter, and Marlene Dumas. —E.C.
