Sibylle Bergemann, Unter den Linden, Berlin 1968.

June 27 – Oct 10, 2022
Alte Jakobstraße 124-128, 10969 Berlin, Germany

In 1958, Sibylle Bergemann was working for an East German entertainment periodical called Das Magazin. The glossy pages got Bergemann thinking about photography. In 1966 she began study with the photographer and teacher Arno Fischer, who also became her life partner. By the 1970s her work was appearing in fashion magazines around the country. Bergemann traveled to New York, Tokyo, Paris, and Sao Paolo to document urban life. In Asia and Africa, she shot jungles and deserts. At BG, 200 photographs, including 30 unpublished shots, take viewers across the globe. —Elena Clavarino
