“For me,” explains the artist Seth Cameron, “beauty lives on the razor’s edge between overwhelmedness and detachment.” In his new exhibition “The Tourist,” Cameron uses the techniques of traditional sumi ink painting to depict dramatic landscapes and objects, from a mist-covered Irish seaside to a shadow-clad chrysanthemum. He began painting the series in October, as violent images of the Israel-Hamas conflict engulfed the world. In shades of gray and black, Cameron excavates feelings of grief and powerlessness, personal and global. —Paulina Prosnitz
