Sara Berman was not famous. She was born in Belarus, immigrated to Palestine, raised two daughters in New York, returned to Tel Aviv, divorced her husband, and moved to Greenwich Village, where she wore white for the rest of her life. Her grandson and daughters—one of them the illustrator and artist Maira Kalman—saw Berman’s simple closet, a monochrome of whites precisely folded and stacked, as a work of art (think installation by Giorgio Morandi). The closet sits in the Kimmel Plaza. Inside the museum, an expanded look at Berman’s life. —L.J.
