“I had my creative soul in me and nobody can take that and you can’t learn it,” Rolf Sachs has said. “You have it or not.” Sachs began his career as an investment banker. Born into a wealthy family in Lausanne, Switzerland, he studied economics. “I didn’t think of myself as particularly artistic,” he said recently, “as I assumed everyone was creative.” He learned he was wrong, and in 1994 he moved to London and founded a design studio: rolf sachs fun’ction. Sachs dabbles in a little bit of everything: painting, sculpture, photography, and design, from furniture to theater sets. Surrealism, Suprematism, Dadaism—he draws inspiration from all three. At this exhibition at Kunsthalle Schweinfurt, over 150 works by Sachs, in no particular order, explore the human experience. —Henry McGrath
