Sally Wainwright’s latest TV series, Riot Women, follows five seemingly conventional women with demanding jobs, grown-up children, and absent husbands. When they enter a local talent contest with their newly formed punk-rock band, the experience becomes a catalyst for reinvention. What begins as a lark soon turns into a rebellion against the quiet compromises of middle age. While writing their first song, they realize they have quite a lot to say about love, loss, and the small injustices that have piled up over the decades.
