Acclaimed British sculptor Richard Long once said, “My art is the essence of my experience, not a representation of it.” When Long visited Mexico for the first time in 1979, he trekked across many of the country’s harshest natural landscapes, and with continuing visits he became enamored with the culture. At Luis Barragán’s modernist enclave, Long has recreated the essence of his Mexican experience in works made of volcanic and river stones. —E.C.
