The Baker Museum in Naples, Florida, has been closed for two years due to damage by Hurricane Irma. On December 1, it reopens with a real gem of an exhibition: five oils and one gouache, dating from 1932 to 1956, by the surrealist René Magritte. Collected by the late Jean Van Parys, an attorney and close friend of Magritte’s, the works have been loaned to the museum by Van Parys’s daughter. They have never before been shown in America and were last exhibited in 1971, in Kyoto. Shéhérazade, the gouache, could be one of those 1001 stories: blue eyes and a red mouth float in a lacelike pattern of white pearls, the sea and sky beyond. —L.J.
