Queer New York International Arts Festival

Bruno Isaković and Nataša Rajković’s Yira Yira.

Feb 7–17, 2024
566 LaGuardia Pl, New York, NY 10012

Queer New York International may take place in New York, but the seven performances in this 11-day festival all hail from elsewhere. They also tend to be out there—cheekily undoctrinaire. Choreographer-dancers Mia Zalukar and festival regular Bruno Isakovic, for example, imagine their working relationship through the mirror of Tarantino’s deliriously violent martial arts flick Kill Bill. The Goldberg Variations of Canadian performance artist Clayton Lee has two Goldbergs in mind, the Bach and the wrestler (first name Bill). Other offerings include live testimonials from insouciant Argentine sex workers and a tribute to the late Raimund Hoghe, the humpbacked German choreographer who made a practice of appearing alongside his willowy dancers in a feast of sadomasochism for audience and performers alike. —Apollinaire Scherr
