In 1997 Disney released Hercules, a delightful version of the classic myth featuring a naive superhero and a wise heroine. Now, a musical adaptation of the movie—one of a series that invites communities across New York to engage in participatory theater—features new songs by the film’s composer, Alan Menken, alongside the movie’s original score. Still relevant are lines like, “Well, you know how men are. They think ‘no’ means ‘yes’ and ‘get lost’ means ‘take me I’m yours.’” —J.V.
