Pablo Picasso died in 1973, after creating more the 20,000 works in a slew of mediums. The South African artist William Kentridge, equally multifaceted and very much alive, is particularly known for his prints and animated films. In Picasso’s hand, a drawing is simple yet essential. In Kentridge’s, it’s part of an ongoing drama. This exhibition presents 130 drawings by 70 artists, starting with Picasso and heading chronologically—through many movements—to today. Expect to see work by Chagall, Duchamp, Johns, Magritte, Pollock, Rothko, and more. —E.C.
