While Pablo Picasso’s life has been well-documented and his art endlessly analyzed and exhibited, there are still hidden aspects of his practice. Take his cut papers—drawings on paper he would then snip out and sometimes fold into a standing position. Picasso used the technique from age nine to the end of his life. While most of these works were never put up for sale, he signed, dated, and archived them. Moreover, the technique informed his paintings. This exhibition at the Hammer highlights Picasso’s lesser-known cut-paper works. —Jensen Davis
