725 Vineland Pl, Minneapolis, MN 55403, United States

Paul Chan was born in Hong Kong in 1973, but the city’s poor air quality soon began affecting his health. His family relocated to Sioux City, Iowa. As a young adult, Chan was industrious. In 1999, he created his own artist’s sharing platform, called nationalphilistine.com. In 2003, his first short film was presented at Greene Naftali gallery. Yet just as his moving-image works were coming to prominence, he got fed up with art making and in 2009 took a “breather.” Chan turned to experimental publishing, under the name Badlands Unlimited. This exhibition presents the radical publications from his hiatus—2009 to 2014—as well as work from his return to art, which began in 2016. —Elena Clavarino
