The Dallas-based painter Otis Jones keeps it simple. “I’m interested in objects, patina, wear, and age,” Jones has said. “Each piece takes on its own geology. I don’t hide anything. It’s a very real object.” Jones has been working this way since the 1960s, pursuing his own form of minimalism. He creates circular and ovular plywood frames by hand, paying particular attention to the thickness, weight, and shape of his creations. Vito Schnabel’s first exhibition of Jones presents six new works by the artist. —Clara Molot
