This summer, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, in Morningside Heights, resounded to Beethoven’s stirring Symphony No. 9 in a sold-out performance by the touring Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra under the baton of Keri-Lynn Wilson. To ring in the New Year, the Cathedral Choirs and Orchestra scale the same inspirational peaks under the same vaulted rafters as led by the conductors Kent Tritle and Bryan Zaros. For the concluding choral “Ode to Joy,” unprecedented in the history of the symphony, the stellar soloists are Kathryn Lewek, Raehann Bryce-Davies, Paul Appleby, and William Guanbo Su. There’s no doubt this concert will sell out, too. —Matthew Gurewitsch
