“No one in this world comes from nothing,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Elizabeth Strout writes in her 2016 novel, My Name is Lucy Barton. Now, four-time Tony nominee Laura Linney stars in the book’s stage adaptation, a one-woman play that nevertheless incorporates all of the experiences—and people—who have shaped where, and what, Lucy Barton comes from. Strout’s stripped-down eloquence paired with Linney’s talent as an actor led to sold-out shows in the play’s first run at London’s Bridge Theater. The production, adapted by Rona Munro and directed by Richard Eyre, now comes to Broadway for a limited run. —J.V.
