“There is a poetic nature to minimalism,” the American artist Jennie C. Jones has said, “that is about striking a balance between full and empty.” Though seemingly inexpressive and austere, minimalist art is essentially poetic. It also has a sensuality that renders it surprisingly sensitive to its placement in space and changes in lighting. Minimalism flourished in the United States in the 1960s, when artists pulled back from the aggressive energies of Expressionism. This exhibition includes outstanding works by Minimalism’s Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Robert Morris, and Charlotte Posenenske. —Elena Clavarino
