Mattia Bonetti: Murano

May 12 – Dec 31, 2020
2-4 King St, St. James's, London SW1Y 6QP, United Kingdom

Venice’s Murano—otherwise known as the Island of Glass—is home to the world’s most celebrated glassblowing techniques. It’s for this reason that Mattia Bonetti, after a short stint at CIRVA (Centre Internatioanal de Recherche sur le Verre et les Arts Plastique) in Marseilles, decided his detailed sketches could only be transformed into reality by Murano’s artisans. The results of the collaboration are now displayed online. Vases, lamps, mirrors, and side tables combine classic Murano elements with Bonetti’s whimsical surrealism. An homage to the art and architecture of Venice, these pieces feel freshly contemporary yet hail centuries-old tradition. —E.C.
