Mary Weatherford: Canyon, Daisy, Eden

Apr 22 – Sept 5, 2021
1606 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe, NM 87501, United States

The daughter of an Episcopalian priest and a historian in Ojai, California, contemporary artist Mary Weatherford is known for her expressive abstract works. She often paints the California landscape, pulling life from tangled vegetation, vast sky, and craggy coastline. “The American symbolist movement is deeply rooted in landscape.” she once explained. “In all work there is a compelling centrifugal force distinctive to images that point to the transcendental.” This exhibition begins with Weatherford’s early target paintings from the 1990s, then moves to the inspirited canvases that brought her acclaim in the new millennium. —E.C.
