Louisiana on Paper: Nancy Spero

Jan 23 – June 21, 2020
Gl Strandvej 13, 3050 Humlebæk, Denmark

“I’ve always sought to express a tension in form and meaning in order to achieve a veracity,” the late artist Nancy Spero once said. Spero was an unflinching feminist in a time of social turmoil, and she used her art to fight male-dominated political power structures. Her drawings, sculptures, and installations, which often drew upon ancient and mythical tales, placed women at the center of her visual narratives, eventually to the exclusion of all things masculine. The first presentation of Spero’s work in Denmark, this exhibition showcases her works on paper. —E.C.
