Three years after his 1996 graduation from the China Academy of Art, the artist Liu Wei became part of the subversive Post-Sense Sensibility movement, which focused on visceral, body-oriented work and extreme experiences. Twenty-four years later, Wei is still true to those days and continues to shock viewers with his immersive installations. In Over, his latest work, Wei reflects on the tumultuous year of 2020. Combining elements of sculpture, video, and painting, he considers matter, ideology, global order, and how we got where we are today. —E.C.
