Lee Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse

Apr 24 – Oct 9, 2022
5905 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036, USA

One of the wildest yet most disciplined imaginations in fashion belonged to the late Alexander McQueen. The British designer, born in 1969, was a comet. He cut his teeth in menswear, and then shot into the haute couture, founding his own label in 1992, and was hired by Givenchy in 1996 (where he designed until 2001). McQueen took his own life in 2010, at the age of 40, and the darkness in his vision, as well as the leaps of light, can leave one speechless. A new exhibition at LACMA explores McQueen’s interdisciplinary impulse, his wide and deep frame of reference, and his artistic process. —Laura Jacobs
