While rummaging through his house, the artist Lavi Daniel stumbled upon a touching memento—a drawing he’d completed 60 years earlier, at the tender age of seven. The earnest nature of the work sparked something in the mature artist, and he set out to channel that early wonder with a series of drawings in pastel. Daniel created surrealist scenes in an irresistibly rich color palette. Seventeen of these works on paper are on view at Luis De Jesus. —Elena Clavarino
