“I feel no shame,” said the American painter Laura Owens, “about having paintings be as grandiose and ridiculous as possible.” Owens is not seeking a niche or cultivating an obscure point. Her concept is simply to paint pictures that are as interesting as possible—colorful, lavish, fun, even entertaining. This exhibition is the first presentation of a series of handmade books she’s been working on for the last decade. —E.C.
