“Vaguely familiar and acutely strange,” is how the critic Peter Schjeldahl describes the paintings of Laura Owens, which range from small pieces to large canvases, from inconspicuous to in-your-face. Experimental without being forbidding, Owen draws from Impressionist masters and children’s fables, American Folk art and digital imaging. Her vibrant work, distinguished by its light touch, is on display in Mexico for the first time. —E.C.
