The London-based artist Kira Freije creates bodies out of slim, sinuous bands of stainless steel. Hands, feet, and heads are cast aluminum. These people are simultaneously futuristic, academic, and spectral. Freije places them in airy settings touched with narrative. She allows them introspection. For her first show in Scotland, Freije kept her inspiration nearby: the River Cample. Now her work moves to its second location—down to the southwest tip of the U.K., where it is close to another river, this one the Helford, in Cornwall. “When things are unfixed and open,” Freije said recently, “they’re much more exciting to think about, and be around, and also [to] make as well.” —Clara Molot
