Fernanda Coppel’s play King Liz, which had its 2015 premiere at the Atlantic Theater Company in Manhattan, is now on the West Coast. The show centers on Liz Rico, a fierce sports agent contending with the rampant racism and sexism of her industry. Her boss, Mr. Candy, pressures her to sign a new client: Freddie Luna, a high school basketball wunderkind whose dribbling skills are far more advanced than his emotional maturity. Luna lands an N.B.A. contract under Rico’s guidance, but the prodigy’s behavior threatens his, and her, career. Jesca Prudencio directs. —Jensen Davis
