Martin Scorsese’s forthcoming Killers of the Flower Moon features Hollywood mainstays Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and the recent Oscar winner Brendan Fraser. But it also shines a spotlight on relative newcomers Lily Gladstone, who had a role in Reservation Dogs, and Tantoo Cardinal, an actress with a variety of Canadian television credits. Both Gladstone and Cardinal are of Indigenous American descent. Scorsese based the film on David Grann’s acclaimed nonfiction book of the same name, which explores the mysterious murders of wealthy Osage Nation Native Americans in the 1920s. The movie is long—three hours and 43 minutes—yet at this year’s Cannes Film Festival it basked in widespread acclaim. What’s it all really about? Land. Oil. Money. —Jack Sullivan
