The artist Jordan Nassar is a second generation American: his paternal grandfather left Palestine for America as a teenager. Nassar uses Palestinian craft techniques to reflect on pressing themes, his works often taking the form of panels that employ hand embroidery, wood inlay, and glass. Islamic geometries are combined with landscapes from back home. “As I delved further into the medium,” Nassar once explained, “I realized that in fact the pattern is really just ‘my paint.’” At the ICA, hand-embroidered multi-panel works and glass sculptures present visions of identity and infinity. —Elena Clavarino
