In 1998, the Public Theater, known for some of New York’s most acclaimed off-Broadway shows, opened a new performance space called Joe’s Pub. In the last two decades, it’s become known for eclectic lineups—talents as diverse as Elvis Costello, Alan Cumming, and John Lithgow have performed there. On October 4, the venue, which is more casual than the Public’s other spaces and includes drinks and a pub menu, reopens for a new season. The cabaret singer Justin Vivian Bond and the singing duo The Illustrious Blacks kick it off. —Jensen Davis
