Jenny Holzer has a unique ability to turn words into Everyman art. She uses exterior walls, marble benches, and bronze plaques as her canvases, and is always willing to play with new technologies in the name of art and justice. Holzer keeps text simple, but her meanings are steeped in the politics of power. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen presents a sweeping exhibition of Holzer’s work, moving from the 1970s until now. —Clara Molot
