Into the Woods

June 28 – Oct 16, 2022
246 W 44th St, New York, NY 10036

When Into the Woods premiered on Broadway in 1987, it was an immediate hit. Stephen Sondheim, who wrote the music and lyrics, earned a Tony for Best Score; James Lapine won for Best Book. The show—a fairy tale about a witch, a baker, and a slew of other characters from stories by the Brothers Grimm—has been regularly staged around the U.S. and England ever since. This acclaimed production by the New York City Center Encores! series, directed by Lear deBessonet, is the musical’s third time Broadway, and it’s dedicated to the memory of Sondheim, who died last November. —Jensen Davis
