The word ”histórias” in Portuguese does not read the same as “histories” in English. While the latter refers to the text we study in our history books, the former references tales of both fiction and non fiction, as well as oral histories and personal accounts. This exhibition at MASP focuses on the histórias—not histories—of Indigenous people from the Americas, Oceania, and Scandinavia, from the period before European colonization to the present. One hundred and seventy artists are presenting 285 works in a cacophony of color. —Elena Clavarino
