There’s a lot to be excited about in Hold on to Me Darling. For starters, it stars Adam Driver (House of Gucci and Ferrari). Neil Pepe, the Atlantic Theater Company’s longtime creative director—recently nominated for a Tony Award—directs. And the script is by Kenneth Lonergan, who wrote and directed Manchester by the Sea and co-wrote Gangs of New York. Driver plays Strings McCrane, a successful country music singer who quits his career when he learns of his mother’s death. McCrane moves back to his hometown in Tennessee, only to find that the simple life is not as simple as he imagined. First performed at the Atlantic in 2016, the play now comes to the Lucille Lortel Theatre. —Jeanne Malle
