Can it really be 30 years since Billy Crudup made his 1995 Broadway debut in Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia? Juggling his role in the television series The Morning Show with appearances onstage, Crudup now takes the lead in the world premiere of High Noon, in the West End. Adapted by Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Dune) from the 1952 Western starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly, the play unfolds in the American West of the 19th century. On his last day in the job, and faced with the return of the outlaw Frank Miller, the marshal Will Kane must choose between his sworn duty to the town and life with his new bride, the pacifist Amy Fowler—and he does so in real time. Yet another classic that pits spine against self-interest, High Noon resonates anew. —Jeanne Malle
