Herbert Bayer: Bauhaus Master

Jan 1 – Apr 26, 2020
2 E 91st St, New York, NY 10128, United States

As the pioneering graphic designer Herbert Bayer once said, “My work seen in its totality is a statement about the integration of the contemporary artist into an industrial society.” It’s been 100 years since the beginning of the Bauhaus, the school that popularized the concept of art and beauty merged with utility. A Bauhaus student who became one of its foremost teachers, Bayer produced graphic design that popped with modern energy. His work in typography and photography, design theory, information design, fashion and beauty, and poster graphics will be on display. —E.C.
