In the art of Haegue Yang, mundane household objects such as light bulbs, hair dryers, fans, and Venetian blinds are transformed into meticulously executed sculptures and immersive installations. Sound, light, air, and fragrance are also part of the Yang experience, adding emotional and cultural connotations. The South Korean artist’s first survey in North America—over 80 works, early to recent—includes Anthology of Haegue Archives (1998), Afterimage (2006), Sallim (2009), and Boxing Ballet (2013–15). —E.C.
