Cuba is more than Castro, Cold War, beach resorts, and cigars, as one sees in the photographs of the Montreal artist Jean-François Bouchard. His images capture a new Cuba, whose younger generation, thanks to digital technology and globalization, have embraced a modern identity. From drag queens in Havana to LGBTQ teenagers in front of a painting of The Last Supper, Bouchard’s photographs poignantly document the dramatic cultural shifts created by the country’s young people. —Paulina Prosnitz
