The French painter, architect, and photographer George Rousse is interested in the quandaries of perception. In photographs of architectural interiors, he constructs another space within the space. The manipulation usually involves color and geometric form, and the result reverberates between between two and three dimensions. Is it a flat image we see? Or a shape afloat in limbo? It’s a fascinating optical game. —E.C.
